Mi-Rancho Tortillas was established in 1948 by Fred & Rose Canales, near the Westside of Fresno.
In 1956, after serving in the Korean War, Gilbert Cruz and his two brothers decided to go into a partnership with their Stepfather and purchased Mi-Rancho Tortillas from the Canales Family. The partnership of Cruz and Robles continued successfully for 16 years.
In 1979, Dorothy and Gilbert Cruz bought sole control of Mi-Rancho Tortillas from the rest of the family, creating the Husband and Wife partnership. The pair would spend the next 24 years growing the business together.
During that time, the second generation of the family joined the business and began to leave their mark. Criss K. Cruz and Kirk Cruz began to expand Mi-Rancho Tortillas marketing and distribution channels. Between the two brothers, tortilla routes were established throughout California's Central Valley and Mi-Rancho Tortillas' iconic packaging was developed.
In 2007, the third generation of the Cruz Family, Christopher G Cruz, officially joined the business. Like his father, Cristopher began by taking an active role in the marketing and distribution side of the business. Shortly after he took responsibility for the Southern California distribution channels.
In 2011, the Tortilla Industry Association inducted Dorothy Cruz into the Tortilla Hall of Fame with Distinguished Honors. Dorothy was recognized for being in the Tortilla Industry for over 65 years.
In 2013, the Cruz Family introduced the Mi-Familia Brand into the market. Mi-Familia was created to recognize those people of the past, present and future who help and support Mi-Rancho Tortillas.
